Jason Taylor is Full of Crap
Seriously.
Yes, I know I entertained the notion of having Taylor, the disgruntled Miami Dolphin, in the Green & Gold next season, but now I don’t want to touch him with a 50-foot pole drenched in disinfectant. The man has locker room cancer written all over him now. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has a great piece on this situation that has totally changed my mind about Taylor.
Apparently, Taylor wants to go to a bigger market and to a team that has a chance to win. He has a list of twelve teams that he wants to be traded to, including the San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Philadelphia Eagles. The Packers are not on that list. Apparently a team that went 13-3, narrowly lost the NFC Championship Game in overtime to the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants, and is only losing two starters from both starting units (quarterback Brett Favre [retirement] and defensive tackle Corey Williams [trade to Cleveland]) is not a “contender” according to Jason Taylor. He’s wrong. I guess this is all about the “market” then. According to a source, the markets:
all have at least two of the following three traits in common: They have a chance to go deep into the playoffs, are in close proximity to Florida or California or reside in a top television market.
I guess the Packers only get one of the three. The Midwest doesn’t look that good to his highness. I totally disagree with all of Taylor’s reasoning. He is under contract with the Dolphins. He’s not a free agent. He doesn’t get to pick his destination. This whole, “I wanna go where I wanna go ’cause I wanna be an actor” thing doesn’t fly with me. Frankly, it’s bull$#!%. Stay out of Green Bay, Jason.
Now, on the other hand, I do understand some of Taylor’s reasoning for not wanting to go to Green Bay:
After playing with Dan Marino during his final three seasons, Taylor watched as 13 starting quarterbacks failed to adequately replace him. As a result, Taylor has gone six years without even playing in a playoff game. So the prospect of playing with Rodgers, who has yet to start a game, is far from enticing.
“He’s been through that quarterback thing before,” the source said. “He doesn’t want to go through it again. Maybe if Favre was still there, but even that wouldn’t be a given.”
I’m perfectly fine with that. Taylor wants a winner, but he doesn’t know if the Packers will win with Aaron Rodgers. I’m fine with that reason for him not coming. He wants to win. He doesn’t know if the Packers will win. Because of being teammates with Marino, he knows exactly how important the quarterback is to the team and their chances of winning. Point given.
But the fact that he is attempting to control his whole destiny is crap. So many players feel as if they are bigger than the teams and the league now.
Whoops I’m digressing.
Basically, Ted Thompson, don’t waste your time. The Packers locker room isn’t interested in someone whose mind is already done with football. Give Jeremy Thompson a chance and let’s see if Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila can come back strong.
Our draft picks aren’t worth Jason Taylor.

[...] Taylor. A Taylor-for-Favre swap is pretty intriguing, but I don’t think that’s what Taylor wants and Favre wants a winner, but I don’t see the Dolphins turning into playoff contenders right [...]
