Snag In The Plan?

You all remember how earlier I presented a plan for the Green Bay Packers to acquire Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers?

Well things have gotten a little more interesting. The Packers hired former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Jeff Trgovac to coach their defensive linemen, a move seen by a coup by many, as Trgovac had just been offered a new contract to stay at the same post in Carolina.

This move is a bit of a head scratcher for me, as Trgovac ran a 4-3 defense in Carolina, yet he is being brought in to coach a three-man defensive front. Trgovac hasn’t coached in a 3-4 defense since the 1989 season when he was at Navy. However, Trgovac is experienced and should bring something new to a recently stale Packers defense.

This signing also complicates that proposed acquisition. The relationship between Trgovac and Peppers was frosty at best at the end of the Trgovac era in Carolina. The star defensive end didn’t feel that his talent was being used well enough by the man at the helm and that has been rumored to be in influence in his decision to most likely walk away from Carolina.

Have Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson scared Peppers away from Green Bay?

Ted Scares pretty much all top free agents away from wanting to play in green bay.  Now Ted can blame Trgovac for not having to spend a dime in free agency…
