Packers Look To Ground Cardinals

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

After victorious efforts against the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns in the 2009 preseason, the Packers turn their attention to the defending NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals tonight in Phoenix.  While the Cardinals will be without two of their biggest playmakers in Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston as both are out with injuries.  Still, the potent Cardinals have Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald, along with the rest of the offense to provide a challenge for the Packers developing 3-4 defense.
The secondary, namely Anthony Smith and Atari Bigby, will see plenty of action their way with the high-flying Cardinals attack.  The Cardinals, [...]

Packers Pick Offensive Line

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

After a grueling few weeks of training camp, Mike McCarthy has finally found an offensive line he is comfortable with for the 2009 season.  The new line features new starters at three of the five situations, with the entire right side of the line being new.  Jason Spitz beat out Scott Wells for the center job, Josh Sitton earned the right guard position, and Allen Barbre winds out the line at right tackle.
The battle between Spitz and Wells was one of the closest watched in camp.  Both players have started games for the Packers over the last few years and [...]

Vikings To Add That One Quarterback

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has just reported that Brett Favre will sign with the Minnesota Vikings pending the results of a physical:
A source close to Brett Favre said the quarterback, pending a physical, will sign a contract with the Minnesota Vikings for between $10 million to $12 million, according to ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.
Jay Glazer had reported yesterday that many of the Vikings players thought that Favre-to-Minny was a done deal.  And it seems like he was right.  While everything is a waiting game with Favre, it seems he may actually get to Minnesota.  Favre will most likely leap over [...]

Glazer: Favre Could Make Return To Vikings

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Brett Favre | COMMENTS: None Yet

Did we really think this was over?  On July 28th, when Brett Favre told Brad Childress and the Minnesota Vikings that he would not be returning to the NFL to play for the Vikings, did we really think it was legitimate?  Most people didn’t.
I for one believed for a second.  But then I realized this is Brett Favre we’re talking about, the most notorious flip-flopper, waffler, whatever you want to call him.  He’ll play when he wants.
Now FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer is reporting that Favre could join the Vikings in the near future:
If I were a betting man, I’d swear [...]

Packers Blank Browns, 17-0

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dom Capers could be on to something with this 3-4 defense thing.
After the Packers preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns in which the new defense held the Browns to just 191 total yards, all systems look like a go.  While defensive stalwarts Charles Woodson, Al Harris, and Nick Barnett did not play along with rookies Clay Matthews and B.J. Raji, plus Jeremy Thompson, the defense still looked good, limiting the Browns running game to just 59 yards on the ground.
The Packers offense was also hitting on all cylinders, as the first-team put up 14 points in the first quarter on a [...]

Do the Packers Want A Hook Up, Summer Fling, or Relationship With Michael Vick?

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Is Ted Thompson being coy about personnel matters?  Or is there something here with Michael Vick?
It’s like when you’re high school.  There’s that girl out there.  You hear she likes you.  But nothing legitimate is coming from her mouth.  All your mutual friends are abuzz with the possibility of a relationship, but between the two of you, neither of you are saying anything.  You’re saying that you want real concrete proof she’s into you; she’s sending out mixed messages.  You hear she just wants to hook up with you and you aren’t the type she’d actually date.  Or maybe she [...]

Ode to Favre: Brett Favre Parody Video

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Big thanks to the folks over at Wondershot Promotions who are letting us post this video here for our readers. They do amazing stuff and are just getting started. Check them out, bookmark them, visit them often. Their latest production, Ode to Favre, is a parody of the media’s coverage of Brett Favre. Even with Favre not coming back in purple (yuck), if you actually believe that, he is still dominating the news cycle, so this production couldn’t be more spot on. Enjoy…

Packers Camp Notes: Day 1

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Packers opened camp yesterday with renewed optimism, looking to rebound from a disappointing 6-10 season a year ago.  The team is excited to experiment with Dom Capers‘ 3-4 defense and basically just turn it around from last year.  So some Day 1 headlines:

Linebacker Nick Barnett is opening camp on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list after he did not pass his physical.  Barnett flunking his physical has nothing to do with him being out of shape, as he is recovering from a torn ACL suffered last year in a game against the Minnesota Vikings.  There is no time table yet for [...]

Packers Training Camp Opens Today

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Packers training camp opens, today, August 1st in Green Bay, WI at the newly renovated Ray Nitschke Field across the street from legendary Lambeau Field.  The Packers have 25 practices scheduled between today and September 1 that will shake down the Packers roster to the 53 men needed to lead the Packers to a winning season.  Nitschke Field was renovated during the summer to provide Packers fans with an enhanced experience of viewing the practices.  As someone who has attended training camp in the past, I’d have to say that Packers training camp is one of the most unique experiences [...]
