Jclombardi reviews NFL DB rankings.
Today, Jason Cole at Yahoo Sports has a NFL DB rankings out. This time, the Packers are ranked at number two with this dated analysis:
2. Packers: While the combination of Woodson, the league’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and Al Harris, who is returning from injury, is no longer the best cornerback tandem in the league (you don’t have to look far to find the best pair), it’s not like they have fallen very much. Throw in Atari Bigby and Nick Collins at safety and you have an extremely quick and athletic group. If the front seven can generate a little more pressure, they should improve on the 30 INTs from last season and reduce the 29 TD passes. The depth is really good with the likes of Bush, Williams, and Blackmon.
However, with the addition of rookie SS Burnett and the return of healthy DB Blackmon and DB Lee back to support the first team, the Packers should have a better coverage team to deal with veteran quarterback foes. Even Fox NFL Sports agrees:
Young Gun to Watch: Morgan Burnett, SS. It’s tough not getting excited over Burnett, a do-everything ballhawk out of Georgia Tech. A star in the ACC, Burnett had 14 interceptions in college. I fully expect him to be the Pack’s starting strong safety to start the season.
