For the second time in 3 weeks, and after a loss to the Green Bay Packers, an NFL Head Coach has been fired.
The first was of course Wade Phillips, former Dallas Cowboys head coach immediately following the defeat that was handed to them Nov 7th at Lambeau.
This time it’s Brad Childress, Minnesota Vikings head coach and play caller. I think everyone knew it was bound to happen. He’s made more mistakes this year than the average NFL head coach makes in a career. First, bringing back Brett Favre and giving him a huge $20MM salary. Then signing NFL “problem child” Randy Moss for 4 short weeks, then releasing him and throwing away a 4th round draft pick.
The fans have been calling for his head for weeks now and it’s well publicized that he’s “lost the locker room”, players have openly and sometimes anonymously stated that there is no respect as a coach.
So now, I wonder, is Jim Schwartz , the Detroit Lions head coach next? An NFC rival, has a talented team but can’t seem to find a way to win games, has a 25 road game losing streak, and is making critical mistakes, like not challenging the Dallas Cowboys punt return for a touchdown. You have to think he should be worried.
Last year, when he was hired, the Lions ended the season at 2-14. This year they are 2-8 and it doesn’t look like they are going to do much better. Will a another loss against the Packers on December 12th send him packing too? Only time will tell, but this could be the year that the Packers are known as the coach killers.
