The Crew brews trouble

Damn those Milwaukee Brewers! I love ‘em, but they are on pace to throw off my football schedule.

You see, with the exception of 2009 when the Brewers actually qualified for the playoffs, the Brewers year-in and year-out have started slowly and were inevitably out of contention by no later than the middle of May … Some years they were mathematically and morally done by the end of June.

What that meant is that Wisconsin sports fans were ready to start talking, sleeping and eating Green Bay Packers football. They were already booking hotel rooms for August to watch training camp as a railbird in the shadows of Lambeau Field.

Early this baseball season it looked like we were headed toward the same destination. The Crew was hanging around .500 when the team took a nosedive and teetered on the edge while going nearly 10 games under .500.

But that was until the team caught fire the past two weeks. With tonight’s win over Washington, the Crew has won 11 of their past 14 and have jumped into contention for not only the division lead, but the wild card.

While the Pack is always on my mind, the Brewers provide such a great way to spend the summer months and I do hope the team continues to win.

And though there are still several months to go before the baseball playoffs start, I’m hoping for continued success for the Crew.

Though it means a change in mindset and the sharing of the sports stage in this state … That’s a good thing … Certainly something with which we can live.

After all, the best scenario we can all hope for is to have the Packers sitting with four or five wins and the Brewers heading into post-season play come October.

Should that be the case, we can all deal with the change.

Here we go Brew-ers, here we go!

GO PACK GO!
