Rodgers: Candid interview about football, training, team … and golf

AUTHOR: | IN: Player interview | COMMENTS: None Yet

Aaron Rodgers talked this afternoon about staying in shape, improving, winning another championship, the lockout, and of course, golf, during an interview with  media leading up to his participation in the 22nd annual American Century Championship golf tournament to be held in Lake Tahoe, Calif., in a couple of weeks. While looking forward to playing golf in this great tournament, Rodgers also talked a lot about football and told reporters that the Packers are well positioned to possibly earn more than one more championship in the coming four to five years. He said that because of the team’s youth and [...]

Rodgers: A programming note …

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers on TV | COMMENTS: None Yet

If you’re still awake tonight, check into the Jimmy Kimmel Live  at about 11:30 p.m. as Aaron Rodgers is scheduled as a guest. No doubt, Rodgers is expected to be asked about the several ESPYs for which he and the Green Bay Packers have been nominated. Rodgers has been nominated for Best Male Athlete, while he and Clay Matthews have also been nominated as Best NFL Player. In addition, Mike McCarthy is has been nominated as Best Coach and the Packers are up for Best Team. Any wonder? The ESPYs will be held July 13. Kimmel, with his sarcastic [...]

It could be the kiss of death or it could be simple confidence. Riding high off their four game winning streak at the end of last season, Detroit Lions players aren’t shy about making prognostications … Some have gone on record saying the P word:

The end is near …

The end is near … it’s got to be … How can it be any different than to think that the NFL owners and players association aren’t going to come to an agreement sooner than later.

Scandinavian scientific study

Anyone who came upon the piece published by Star Tribune blogger Rand Ball this week had a chance to laugh out loud … Not only did his publication of “Clearance Clarence: A medical investigation of Packers fans’ thin skin” make me laugh, I couldn’t agree more with what he had to say … Packers fans skin is extremely thin, especially when they have to listen to the mush-mouthed banter each year from those Vikings fans who wouldn’t know a Super Bowl ring from the ring that encircles their bathtubs.

Brandon Jacobs in Green Bay?

AUTHOR: | IN: Trade rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

At this time of year it’s always fun to take a look at possible trade scenarios, despite the fact that Green Bay’s general manager Ted Thompson rarely pulls the trigger on big name players (ok, he did get Charles Woodson). So, let’s have som fun … Let’s consider New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs. We all know what type of running back he is … Jacobs will surely run over a tackler as go around them … Charles Woodson remembers well the collision he had with Jacobs in the 2007 championship game.

Tony Romo, the Wisconsin boy who does most of his work for the ‘Boys of Dallas, is quite the golfer, they say, and has been installed as a 5-2 favorite to win the 22nd annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament coming up later this month in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Romo was ranked as the co-favorite along with Rick Rhoden by Harrah’s & Harveys Lake Tahoe Sports Book.

CBA-let’s get it done

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s been reported today that the Players Association chief DeMaurice Smith and his staff have committed to four days straight of talks with commissioner Roger Goodell and his staff in Minnesota.  The next round of talks were agreed to and confirmed earlier today by ESPN’s Chris Mortenson as the clock continues to tick down toward the projected start of training camp at the end of the month. The general feeling around the league is that the two sides will most likely have to come to an agreement by the middle of the month if they don’t want to face the [...]

Packers: Most improved?

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Sporting News came out this week saying the Packers will win the NFC North Division and will be the most improved team in the NFL. Wow, that’s a huge statement and one that has been on the mind of Packers fans for months – that is, can this team repeat? Well, on the surface this team seems as poised as any team in the history of the league to do so.

NFL’s greed shines through in 18-game proposal

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

For once I agree with the majority over at NFL.com – the 18-game schedule is not such a good idea. Of course the original idea stemmed from the notion that fans could have more games to watch, but we would all be naive to think that the idea didn’t spring from anywhere but an accountant’s office. It’s the bottom line that has kept this idea afloat – in other words, more revenue.
