The thought of the Philadelphia Eagles taking on another reclamation project in the form of Plaxico Burris is nothing short of scary.
Coach Andy Reid has been known as the big Teddy-Bear and should he decide to bring the controversial Burris into the fold, we’ll have to start considering him the miracle worker.
Already he has taken Michael Vick under his wing after his prison stint and now it looks and sounds like Burris could be headed to the Eagles camp.
This would be good news for the Eagles and their legions, but cruel news for the rest of the NFC, especially the top echelon of teams that would have to find ways to stop them.
Burris would join already established Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson to form a trio of targets that would be the envy of the league. Throw in Brent Celek at tight end and LeSean McCoy out of the backfield and this is a complete offense that is going to be difficult to defend.
Coach Reid will be drooling more over this group than a plate of porterhouse steaks.
Should this transaction come to pass, I’m thinking that on paper this looks to be the final piece that could make the difference for the Eagles, but let’s not jump the gun … There are simply too many variables.
Consider the battles of the individuals involved … As well as who will be the first to start the bickering if and when the ball doesn’t come their way. Reid may be able to handle one jailbird, but can he keep two happy as well as run a team that might include others who may not be ecstatic about Burris joining them?
Should the NFL find a solution to its contractual woes sometime soon, the race to woo Burris will be on. No doubt it will be fun to watch.
As a Packers fan, I for one will hope he ends up in the AFC … Far away from Philly.
