A year to remember ... with more to come

Prince Fielder has led the Brewers so far to a season to remember ... our hope is that the fun continues well into October and beyond here in Wisconsin. Tom Lynn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel photograph.

What an awesome year it’s been for sports fans in the state of Wisconsin.
With the disappointing Milwaukee Bucks as the exception, this has been a year of tremendous successes …
With the Brewers taking over first place in the National League’s Central Division this week, Wisconsin fans could put aside the disappointment that the lack of an NFL collective bargaining agreement has brought.
The Brewers have raised the excitement level to new heights in the state again. Though it’s still very early in the season, this is a team that, like the Packers, has overcome a great deal of adversity to find ways to win games.
They started slowly and like the Packers last season recently found themselves in a huge hole. With a record nearly 10 games under .500 early on this year, the Brewers have come roaring back to take over first place.
Yes, there are more than three months remaining, but the Crew has the pieces in place to make a run at a playoff berth. If that’s the case, anything can happen.
If the Packers are the model, the Brewers are hopefully taking notes.
If they are, they know that championship teams are borne from adversity, that they find ways to win the games they must and develop the camaraderie to make it all happen.
If they follow that model, this team could make some waves come October.
While playing well now, the Brewers’ big test will come in the next week when they have to play on the road in Chicago, Boston, and New York. If they at least split those games, this team is legit. If the Brewers get swept, then it will be one of those come to Jesus situations when they must find their identity and overcome.

Like the Packers last season when they lost miserably at Detroit as well as losing their starting quarterback, the team stormed back with that defining game at New England … From there the Packers turned the NFL and the state of Wisconsin on its head.
The Brewers have the same opportunity. They can continue to score runs, get solid pitching and win games.
If they do so, come October we will be watching the Brewers head toward a World Series and the Packers win an NFC North Division title … And hopefully another Super Bowl.
And that would certainly be the capper on a year that we all will remember … Forever.
