Tony Romo, the Wisconsin boy who does most of his work for the ‘Boys of Dallas, is quite the golfer, they say, and has been installed as a 5-2 favorite to win the 22nd annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament coming up later this month in Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Romo was ranked as the co-favorite along with Rick Rhoden by Harrah’s & Harveys Lake Tahoe Sports Book.
According to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, Romo, who grew up in Burlington, Wis., and has admitted to growing up a Packers fan but has since lost his allegiance to his home state team for obvious reasons, finished second in 2009 and 2010 and third in 2008. Among Rhoden’s eight wins are the 2008 and 2009 titles.
Three Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers, Mason Crosby, and A.J. Hawk, will also play in this year’s event.
In another tie to Wisconsin, Romo reached the second round of the Wisconsin State Amateur match play tournament and has a host of amateur and celebrity tournament titles on his resume.
Golf Digest magazine ranked Romo as the number one pro athlete golfer in the country in 2009.
Romo was injured for most of last year as the Cowboys disappointed the team’s fan base with a dismal campaign.
The Packers and Cowboys are not slated to meet in the coming regular season.
