What to do about Nick Barnett?

It’s probably inevitable the Packers will do what so many have been saying for so long : Trade or cut Nick Barnett.

While there have been a variety of scenarios floated, it seems that Brandon over at Acme Packing Company has come up with one that could be a win-win … He says a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs might be the ticket.

Reasoning for this trade has some logic, namely that the Chiefs have the money to spend and the Packers need to shed some high salaries, one of which would be Barnett.

With the Chiefs about $30 million under the cap and a desperate need for a quality linebacker to add to their ranks, this might be just what the doctor ordered.

Barnett, who has been a popular Packer for several years fell out of favor among many Packers faithful because of his behavior last year just prior to the Super Bowl when he demanded the team move the time for a team photo so the he and other injured players could be included. In addition, it became clear that Desmond Bishop played well in Barnett’s absence.

Whatever happens, it’s become clear lately that the Packers need to do something about their finances … And quickly. With the free agency period opening up this week, teams will be moving fast. In order to make the right moves, general manager Ted Thompson will have to join the fray at some point.

The question is what the Packers can get in a trade for Barnett … He’s an established player who should be worth at least a third- or fourth-rounder.

If Thompson can do even better … well, Packers fans won’t be hurt.
