Tauscher cut ... Jones to Minnesota?

The Packers announced this afternoon that they would be cutting ties with longtime right tackle and Abbotsford native Mark Tauscher.

The announcement was first reported on the Internet and just confirmed by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Tauscher has had a solid career with the Packers and teamed up for many years as a bookend tackle with Chad Clifton. Battling back from injury in 2009, Tauscher resumed his starting role after riding the bench the first part of the season. He provided stability to the offensive line that had struggled during the first few games of that season. Last year, he was injured about one-third of the way through the season and was considering a comeback before being cut today.

A Wisconsin Badger and late round pick, Tauscher became a fan favorite and will probably be remembered as one of the most consistent right tackles in Packers history. Very rarely penalized, he anchored the right side, providing pass protection for many years and helped to solidify a running game that paved the way for several 1,000 yard seasons by running back Ahman Green.

Packers fans will miss the big guy.

James Jones

Several players have departed Green Bay and found a home in Minnesota – Darren Sharper, Ryan Longwell and of course, the most infamous – Brett Favre.

Now we might be adding James Jones to the list.

Judd Zulgad, the Minneapolis Star Tribune writer, has said the Vikings are making what’s considered a serious run at the wide receiver.

While the Packers are said to have made an offer to Jones, the Vikings’ deal is for considerably more, according to reports … and with Sidney Rice’s move to Seattle, Jones would fill a huge hole and could be a nice target for the newly-inked Donovan McNabb.

There have also been rumors the Vikings are pursuing either Braylon Edwards or Malcom Floyd.

First,Tauscher will always be a Packer. Now that the slobbering crying is over,we all know this was coming and is best for the team no matter what direction one may try to debate it from.Would I sign him as an emergency back-up,absolutely but not for money that hinders ANY OTHER position.

Second, those that think JJ may come back to Green Bay,forget it.Unless JJ has been awakened from his self induced dictorial that he is a true #1 and has the ability to swallow some pride,he won’t be back.

I will offer two reasons only and IMO the biggest reasons. He was unable to accept what he didn’t do on the field as his,at that moment and not two days later.

He worried too much about his slot ranking(1,2,3,4,5) at WR than actually improving and expanding his possible positives for the team. Research Jordy Nelson for this.

JJ,get the ego in check and then you may thrive somewhere.
