It’s not surprising the news came just a few minutes ago via Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel … The Packers have agreed to terms with wide receive James Jones.

Terms of the deal are not yet available.

And it seems that Jones had some heavy hitters go to bat for him. We all know that Aaron Rodgers went public last week, saying that James Jones should be priority number one, but what we didn’t know was that Packers veteran receiver Donald Driver also put in a significant plug for Jones.

Did it influence Packers management to pick up the pace? We may never know, but what we do know is the Jones is under contract with the Packers for the next three years and only emphasizes Ted Thompson’s mantra that he likes to take care of his own. … [visit site to read more]

The acquisition of Nnamdi Asomugha, Young, and Jason Babin were good moves by the Eagles, but to spout off in public about being the Dream Team is just obnoxious … and everybody sees it.

Sure, the experts even sounded off last night after the Asomugha deal was announced, anointing the Eagles the team to beat.

Raymond T. Rivard photograph

Mike McCarthy was at the podium this morning for his first press conference with the start of training camp as the players hit the field tonight.

He talked about the offseason, getting back to work, the team’s goals, and the difficulty he has had the past few days with the task of organizing and kicking camp off while at the same time experiencing the birth of he and his wife Jessica’s first baby … his answers were McCarthy-like – direct, honest and revealing.

Here are some of the highlights of that session as blogged by Tom Silverstein of the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Players have been at the facility taking physicals and conditioning tests. “I think the
conditioning is something answered in the next couple of days.”

“We have a limited amount of time to get ready for the home opener, so it’s important we make use of our practices.” … [visit site to read more]

The Packers announced this afternoon that they would be cutting ties with longtime right tackle and Abbotsford native Mark Tauscher.

The announcement was first reported on the Internet and just confirmed by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Tauscher has had a solid career with the Packers and teamed up for many years as a bookend tackle with Chad Clifton. Battling back from injury in 2009, Tauscher resumed his starting role after riding the bench the first part of the season. He provided stability to the offensive line that had struggled during the first few games of that season. Last year, he was injured about one-third of the way through the season and was considering a comeback before being cut today. … [visit site to read more]
