Mark Tauscher: A study in consistency

If there’s anyone who would deserve to be a first ballot candidate for the Green Bay Packers’ Hall of Fame it’s Mark Tauscher.

The Wisconsin native and UW-Madison graduate spent more than a decade on the island of right tackle for the Packers, helping to anchor some of the best and most consistent lines in all of Packers history.

He was just yesterday featured in a splendid article on jsonline where his modesty, intelligence and class showed through.

Ron Wolf, who drafted him out of Wisconsin in the seventh round saw his foot skills and strength as his best attributes and he figured Tauscher could stick … Wolf was right.

As the Packers once again evaluate several linemen this summer for an evolving offensive line, one is thankful for players like Tauscher who enjoyed playing in obscurity.

Though he was cut recently by the Packers because he couldn’t pass his physical, Tauscher still isn’t sure if he wants to continue to play.

It’s also still not clear whether the Packers would take him back if he did present himself and there was a spot open. In the meantime, he continues to work out in the event a call comes in from somewhere.

In my mind, his invisibility during his playing days in Green Bay should be rewarded with a spot in the Packers Hall after he finally does hang it up. Heck, he didn’t commit his first holding penalty until his seventh season!

The least we can do is remember him as one of the best.

Tausch was the most consistant and under appreciated linemen the NFL has ever seen. Two years ago Rodgers was running for his life every pass until Tausch got back in the line-up and away the Pack & A-Rod went the rest of the year. When on the field you could see him give 110% every play, never coasting always playing hard and to very high standard. TAUSCH FOR THE PACKER HALL OF FAME. good luck Mark on whatever comes next for you and thanks for the memories!
