Packers, Badgers, Brewers - what a Wisconsin sports weekend

Is there a better time to be a Wisconsin sports fan?

I can’t remember any October when the world’s sports fans have turned their collective eyes to the Badger State quite like they have this particular weekend.

With the Brewers starting the weekend off with a decisive win behind the strength of their pitching and hitting, they go into their second game of the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with much-needed confidence and momentum.

That dominating performance on the diamond was matched by the Wisconsin Badgers’ thrashing of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a pivotal Big 10 game Saturday night.

In a game many figured to be a much closer contest, the Badgers dominated from the outset and certainly improved their national standing in the BCS rankings as well as established a foothold on the Big 10.

Now to complete the sweep, the Brewers have win at home today behind Zac Greinke and the Packers, of course, have to take care of business against the Denver Broncos.

As a touchdown and field goal favorite today, the Packers play at Lambeau Field for the first time in nearly a month in near idyllic conditions against an AFC team that hasn’t beaten the Packers in awhile.

The Broncos, like the Packers have some injuries at key positions, so it will be interesting to see which team is able to exploit the other’s weaknesses.

In the end, I feel the Packers win going away by two touchdowns and the Brewers get strong pitching and big hits once again to complete the win sweep of games that will long be remembered as one of the biggest, and most successful, sports weekends ever in the state of Wisconsin.

As a Cheesehead who moved to Denver in 1995, and is now surrounded by Nebraska and Broncos fans, I am in heaven this weekend! 3 for 3!

When were the Badgers ever ranked this high, if ever?

That’s a good question. I don’t even remember them being this highly ranked even during the Barry Alvarez-Ron Dayne years.
