What fan honestly loves the bye week? I mean, sure it gives you that chance to get away for the weekend, without missing the game on Sunday, but, honestly who really likes the bye week?
We get to do yard work now, yay! All the bye week does is gives us two weeks to dissect our team. Let’s face it, we all do it. We all know the Packers are 7-0 and have the best record in football. We all know Aaron Rodgers is the favorite to win the MVP thus far. We know they have holes in the defense, but make the big plays when they have to. We know they are overcoming injuries, yet again. We know that there are only a couple of teams that could even give the Packers a run this season as well.
With that said, who can compete with the Green ‘n Gold?
The New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots are the two teams that come to mind.
Drew Brees and Tom Brady are the best two quarterbacks in the league (behind Rodgers) and both have good enough offenses to compete with the Packers. However, neither has shown to be able to make the big defensive play when needed. The Packers defense has also shown that they can give up a big play, but then make a big play when the game is on the line.
Brees and Brady have both won Super Bowls and know what it takes to get there, but I can’t see either team getting in the way of a repeat.
So, are the Packers the best team in the NFL?
There is no doubt in my mind. The offense moves the ball with precision, the coaching is second to none, the running game can flip the switch on a dime, and this team is filled with guys who have bought into the team concept.
I am reminded of a tweet just the other day from a fan to TE Tom Crabtree, “Did you see how wide open you were on the Finley TD?” Crabtree’s response, “Yep and I don’t mind at all! 7-0 baby!”
The NFL needs more players like this. I’m just glad he is a Green Bay Packer. For all these reasons mentioned, as the players leave Lambeau for some R and R, they can look in the rear view mirror and wave to the rest of the NFL, “Bye, Bye.”
I’d like to dedicate my blog today to a special friend and her family. Today is the birthday of a special Packers fan who is no longer with us, but will always remain a part of the Packers family.
Thinking of you today, Kimbo.
