Its clear Donald Driver is one of the most popular players ever to don a Green Bay Packers uniform and yesterday’s poll is indicative of that fact.
Out of 170 votes cast to-date, 75 percent of those casting a ballot said they wanted Driver back because he means so much to the franchise. Nineteen percent said that Driver should be brought back only if he takes a drastic pay cut and even more revealing was the fact that just 8 percent thought he should be cut outright and allow him to play elsewhere.
That says a lot about Packers fans – they are loyal and love the players who give so much, not only as football players on the field, but within the community. That’s something Driver has done throughout his 13 years as a player in Green Bay.
While Driver has broken records as a player, his draw among fans comes from his humble ways, his likable personality, his wide smile and his story … he literally came out of nowhere as a seventh round pick and burst onto the scene almost immediately.
Packers fans love stories like that. They love to cheer for the underdog, the player who writes their own stories and advance the legends that have made the franchise what it is today.
Donald Driver is one of those players.
We stand by and await a decision about his future and can only hope for the best for Double D.
