The Packers started fresh Monday with their fourth day of Training Camp. As the team begins to take shape, there were some interesting stories that popped from Monday’s camp.
In addition to tight end Jermichael Finley hitting the practice field for the first time, Anthony Hargrove talked about his role on the team and that he has resigned himself to the fact that the bounty suspension on him will probably stick and he won’t be activated until November – if he indeed makes the roster.
Newly-acquired center Jeff Saturday – who has been relatively silent – also went on record today, talking about how he likes the structure of the Packers camp in comparison to those of the past that he experienced with the Colts.
Some good news is that Jermichael Finley was back at practice and is expected to participate in pad practices later this week.
Other notes of interest from Monday as reported by the Green Bay Press Gazette:
to their training-camp roster, DeMarco
Cosby, in a move that suggests undrafted
rookie Eric Lair’s knee injury might keep
him out a while.
Cosby (6-3, 245) entered the NFL in 2011
as an undrafted rookie signed by St. Louis
and spent one game on the Rams’ practice
squad last season.
Lair injured his knee in practice Monday
morning and didn’t return. After practice,
coach Mike McCarthy said he didn’t know
the extent of the injury.
♦ During a red-zone play that began at
the 11-yard line, running back James
Starks and cornerback Jarrett Bush had as
hard a goal-line collision as you’re going to
see in a training camp practice, where
defenders don’t wrap up and tackle to the
“Guys running full speed, that’s football
right there,” linebacker D.J. Smith said.
“You kind of want to see it, and you kind of
don’t want to see it too. Those guys are
starting guys, we need those guys. But you
kind of like to see guys get after it too.
They both popped up.”
The Packers’ coaching staff had to feel
good when Starks immediately leapt to his
feet, and later when he bounced up after a
hard shot from linebacker A.J. Hawk.
Starks has had injury problems the last
three seasons, dating back to a shoulder
injury that cost him his senior year at the
University of Buffalo.
