Does emergence of Cedric Benson mean the end for Starks?

The running back position just got a bit stickier for the Green Bay Packers.

After last night’s solid performance by Cedric Benson, the grinding, gritty performance by Marc Tyler and the short, rather nonproductive performance by Alex Green, the futures of James Starks and Brandon Saine just got a bit murkier.

Just what will Ted Thompson do about it?

Well, considering his behavior the past few months, it’s difficult to say. Will he place Starks on the trading block? How many running backs will be kept?

On its surface and at this point it looks like Tyler could be headed to the practice squad, which would leave decisions about Benson, Green, Starks and Saine. We all know that John Kuhn is a lock, as is Benson. I have to believe the team will keep Green for his potential, which means that Starks and Saine are question marks. Given both of their histories with injury, they may just be cut. However, I can’t see TT not trying to get something for them.

With a week of preseason remaining, this will be interesting to watch.

Stay tuned.
