Zombo back on Packers 53-man roster

Frank Zombo was nearly the forgotten man for the Green Bay Packers – in fact, when was the last time you heard his name?

As one of three on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP list with Andrew Quarless and Derek Sherrod), Zombo’s future was decided today when Ted Thompson announced the move to place him on the injury-plagued Packers roster.

Given the number of players who will be out Sunday, Zombo will most likely be active.

Zombo was hurt before training camp, suffering a hamstring injury and missing all of camp. He was placed on the PUP list and was declared out for at least the first six weeks of the season. He started practicing three weeks ago. The Packers have three weeks past the six-week deadline to decide what to do with all the players on the PUP list. According to many published reports, it seems that Sherrod (broken leg last year in the Kansas City game) is destined for Injury Reserve. It’s not real clear what the future holds for Quarless. He suffered a knee injury last season.

Zombo is an undrafted free agent signed in 2010. He has six career sacks in 19 games. Two of those games were postseason, including one sack in Super Bowl XLV.
