Packers' Donald Driver headed to the Vikings? Ugh

The news broke late Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers’ all-time leading receiver, Donald Driver, was a possible target of the Minnesota Vikings – notice that there was nothing from Driver’s camp on this possible travesty, but then again there was nothing from Driver debunking the notion that he might consider heading west of the Mississippi.

There were several posts across the Internet about the possibility that Driver may be on the Vikings’ radar.

Let’s just disregard the fact that the Vikings have been in the business of picking up former Packers in the twilights of their careers – Darren Sharper, Brett Favre, Ryan Longwell. Could Double-D be the next?

It was just a few short days ago that reports from a source considered to be credible told news outlets that Driver was leaning toward retirement and that his announcement could come within the week. Would Driver be lured west for another chance to prove himself? One might argue that he is entitled to do as he pleases and shouldn’t be guilted into retirement by the Packers.

This is true.

But looking at his numbers the past two years in Green Bay may indicate that, yes, it’s finally time for Driver to hang ‘em up. The game seems to have passed the old pro by.

While the Vikings are without a legitimate wide receiver threat, do they really think that Driver would give them what they need to address their sorry situation? If they do, management for the team based out of Eden Prairie has more issues than we all understand.

We here in Packers Nation love Donald Driver and always will, no matter what decision he makes this off-season.

For his sake and for every other team who may consider his services, we surely hope Double-D makes the right choice – and we hope it’s not the Vikings.
