last week, an unnamed source indicated that the Green Bay Packers’ all-time leading receiver Donald Driver could announce his retirement from the National Football League as early as this week.
Early this morning, the Green Bay Packers formally announced that Driver will make the announcement next week, Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Atrium at Lambeau Field.
In a statement, Driver said he’s always enjoyed a “special bond” with Packers fans, and “can think of no better way to retire than to celebrate with them and the Packers organization.”
He’s right, and any Packers fan will tell you who their favorite fan has been the past decade has been: Driver. His smile. His style. His class has been nothing but top-notch.
Driver, who turns 38 on Sunday, is the team’s all-time leader in yards receiving (10,137 yards) and catches (743), and is third behind Don Hutson and Sterling Sharpe with 61 touchdown receptions. He had seven 1,000-yard seasons, also a Packers record for a receiver.
