Green Bay Press Gazette reporter Rob Demovsky recently reported that the Packers and Jackson are negotiating a possible three-year deal, but cautioned that a deal may or may not get done. The interest that Jackson has in playing in the same backfield as Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is strong, as evidenced by all the talk the past week linking Jackson and the Packers.
We have to admit that getting to this point has been quick, even though Jackson was linked in a trade last fall that would have sent him from St. Louis north to Wisconsin. However, that deal never materialized and Jackson finished out the season with the Rams and the Packers’ run game sputtered, at best.
However, when Jackson voided his contract with the Rams last week, the spark of interest by Jackson was caught on tape during a conversation with Sports Illustrated’s Peter King. We all know that Jackson told the world that the move to Green Bay was one that made sense, but because Jackson most recently had been tied to the Atlanta Falcons, most figured that was a done deal.
What Jackson could bring to the Packers run game is immeasurable and if he can stay healthy Green Bay could have a two-headed offensive monster that most defenses will find difficult to stop.
But those are big ifs until a deal is consummated.
Stay tuned …
