The Green Bay Packers rookie orientation weekend got under way when the rookies arrived in Wisconsin yesterday to settle in and continued today when each of the players completed physicals, attended meetings and got acquainted with the facilities.
Simple things, such as how to get into the building at various hours during the day and night, according to head coach Mike McCarthy, were gone through with the rookies. Other team meetings, the opportunity to rub elbows with veterans and the chance to get onto the field today were all experienced by the young players.
Coach McCarthy was impressed, telling reporters tonight that they were off to a good start. He also said that first-rounder Datone Jones and second-rounder Eddie Lacy were very welcome in Green Bay. Though they are the only two of the drafted rookies who haven’t signed contracts, Jones and Lacy were on the field running through drills with the rest of their teammates.
Reporters were at the session and photographs were allowed. We’ve posted a few below for your perusal. No doubt, more will be coming in the weeks to follow, especially when the team holds OTAs in the next couple of weeks.
As Packers fans, I think we’re all excited about this time of year … good times are ahead.
