The bizarre continuation of the Aaron Hernandez story spilled over into Packers Nation this morning when the one and only LeRoy Butler joined the fray on Twitter as only he could do.
Here is his tweet:
If I am the pats I trade for Finley ASAP for 2nd round pick

But considering how strange the twists of life can be, one has to admit that LeRoy probably isn’t too far from reality with his suggestion.
We all know the Sir Dropsalot Finley has had his trials and tribulations as a member of the Green Bay Packers. On the field he has shown the explosion and talent that could qualify him as a superstar, but his inconsistency and tendency in dropping passes at the most inopportune times has placed him squarely in the crosshairs of many a Packers fans.
While he was one of the best at his position at the end of last season, the Packers continued to carry him and pay to keep him around for another season … mainly because they don’t have anyone else on the team who could step in and provide the downfield threat that he brings to the table. The Packers have plenty of bodies at the position, but nobody with the proven talent who could be a quick fill for Finley.
So, despite what LeRoy suggests, it doesn’t look like the Packers would, at this point, jump at the chance to unload Finley. While he still has one season left on his contract, the Packers hope they can get the best out of him this year. If he does play well, he will most likely walk in free agency and hope to land the mega-deal he thinks he’s worth. If he plays inconsistently, the Packers won’t pursue him and will allow other teams to take their chances with him.
Anyway, interesting thoughts, LeRoy. Glad to see you’re thinking …
