Just when we are getting over the latest “list” illness brought on by the NFL Network’s Top 100 players of 2012, we are faced with a new list – this one by profootballtalk.com and a slew of NFL experts.
Like the last top 100, we here at lombardiave.com don’t expect this to be much different. But I’ll leave that to the experts who are left to vote on this one. Most likely the top 5 will include all of those who were in the NFL Network’s list – Adrian Peterson, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, JJ Watt and maybe even Aaron Rodgers, who was placed as the sixth best on the first list.
So, what does this all mean?
Well not a hell of a lot.
It’s simply a way for this group of experts to while away the time while riding out this glacially slow news hole in the NFL season. Just like the fact that I find myself writing and complaining about another silly list, all NFL writers are reaching right now for topics to focus on. As coaches hole up in their offices, players take vacations, and the sportswriters sharpen their pencils – or charge their iPhones – in preparation of training camp, we’ve got to find ways to keep readers engaged and interested.
But all the lists in the world isn’t going to make happen.
So, prepare for this newest list. Enjoy it, because it won’t be long before we can start talking about the training camp competitions, injuries, surprise players and the first preseason game.
Hang tight, fans. We abhor this point of the NFL season as much as you do. Yes, we’re ready for some football, too.
