Who woulda thunk it … who woulda imagined Jerry Zucker, that Hollywood icon, teaming up with Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver Jordy Nelson on a pass play to entice visitors to the great state of Wisconsin?
Well, it’s true and on Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Meyer Theatre, 117 S. Washington St., Green Bay, the two will be joined by followers of the green and gold and state Department of Transportation types for the premiere of a television commercial they teamed up to produce. The theme of the 60- and 90-minutes is the attraction of fall in the state of Wisconsin, and a hats off to bygone days of Hollywood’s most beloved films.
Those who attend the event hosted by the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, will be treated to the premiere of the TV spot, a Q&A with Zucker and Nelson, as well as a performance by “Let me be Frank’s” Curly Lambeau.
While Nelson is featured in the commercial, he is also slated to write a monthly blog during the football season for TravelWisconsin.com and will also make an appearance at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism to be held next March at Lake Geneva.
Nelson, who has become a much-loved member of the Green Bay Packers since emerging as a top receiver a couple of seasons ago, had this to say about the collaboration:
“Wisconsin has been so welcoming to me and my family, so I couldn’t resist the chance to join in the fun, which is what people experience in Wisconsin.”
Those are nice words from Nelson the football player.
And while all this is great for Nelson’s image and the Packers face within the community, our hope is that Jordy is fully healed and ready to take over the number one receiver’s spot now that Greg Jennings has moved on to that team across the Mississippi.
Reserve seats are available for $15 in advance or $20 at the door and will include a copy of Sports Illustrated’s newest offering, “Packers: Green, Gold and Glory.”
