64: Jerry Kramer and the days until the start of the NFL season

Sixty-four, 64, 6-4 – it’s a great number today for a couple of reasons: First, it’s the number of days until the start of the NFL season, and second, it’s Jerry Kramer’s number.

What makes the two synonymous?

Well, the start of a new season in the NFL is pretty special, as is Kramer, the only member of the first 50 years NFL All-Star Team who is not inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It’s been written over and over that the shame of the hall of fame is its voting members’ insistence on keeping one of the greatest guards from inclusion. It’s true. While they elect players like Warren Sapp on a first ballot, they don’t even acknowledge Kramer’s greatness. Something’s not right with the world and until this wrong is righted there will be no justice.

So we continue to put the pressure on … we continue to tweet about the injustice … and we won’t rest until it happens.

We here at Lombardiave recently sat down for a couple of hours with Kramer whose interview was honest, blunt, and touching. He talks about everything from former teammates and Vince Lombardi to how much he loves interacting with the fans.

Take a few moments on this special day and listen to what Kramer has to say.

You won’t regret it …
