PFT's Top 100 players: No Packers listed yet

Profootballtalk.com is under way with its Top 100 Players, a complementary (but probably a non-complimentary) alternative to the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players. The website recently released its bottom 25 – or the number 76-100 players selected.

Rounding out the list are Dallas quarterback Tony Romo at number 76 and Chicago running back Matt Forte coming in at an even 100.

The debates can start immediately. Is Romo listed at the right spot? What about Forte? Despite his penchant toward injury, he has been a productive back who has helped to carry the Bears over the past few years. When he’s on the field, it certainly makes the Bears a better team.

Sandwiched in this list (by the way, no Packers are listed in the bottom quarter of this list) are players such as 78 Frank Gore, running back, 49ers; 81 Vernon Davis, tight end, 49ers; 85 C.J. Spiller, running back, Bills; 87 Matthew Stafford, quarterback, Lions; 94 Ed Reed, safety, Texans; and 98 Antoine Winfield, cornerback, Seahawks.

These are some pretty impressive names to be considered in the bottom quarter of the list.

Compare these players with where they were listed in the NFL Network’s compilation:

Frank Gore – 32

Vernon Davis – 38

C.J. Spiller – Not listed

Matthew Stafford – 76

Ed Reed – 18

Antoine Winfield – Not listed

It will be interesting to follow this newest list offering. Given that just three Green Bay Packers (two, if you don’t include former Packer Charles Woodson) made the NFL list, it will be interesting to see if maybe Randall Cobb makes this newest list.

In the meantime and as you wait for football season to start, here is the full list from profootballtalk.com:
