OK, Chicago Bears fans … close your eyes, hold your nose, plug your ears … your beloved Mike Ditka – yeah, Iron Mike – the guy who tells it like it is – loves Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Not only does he think Rodgers is the player he would have most liked to have played with, but he also thinks Rodgers would be the quarterback he would have most liked to coach.
“The guy up in Green Bay, I think is the best in football. But that’s my opinion. I like what he does, and I like his leadership qualities. And I think that’s the other thing you have to look at. He has to be the guy in charge. And the team has to know it.”
Ditka has been around long enough to have seen all of the great ones over the past 50-plus years, but he still goes with Rodgers.
Here’s more from Mike:
“How could I say that I wouldn’t want to coach [Johnny] Unitas or Bart Starr? There’s been so many great ones. But if I had to coach one guy in my career, maybe it’d be Aaron Rodgers.”
I always respected Mike Ditka for what he meant to the game. His arrogance, bravado, and his simplicity are what have irritated me, but if there’s one think I’ve always liked about him it was his honesty. He tells it like he sees it.
With these comments, I can see why. He knows the game and the players, that’s a given.
Thanks for your honesty, Mike.
Aaron Rodgers thanks you, too.
