A holdout by Datone Jones would be bad

If there’s one player who should be on the field from day one of the Green Bay Packers training camp, it should be their number one draft pick, defensive lineman Datone Jones.

Since the signing of the newest collective bargaining agreement and the institution of new salary caps for rookies, the thought of a holdout has been as foreign as Santa Claus in July.

Though it’s uncertain as to the exact sticking point in the Packers and Jones’ camp coming to an agreement, many, including profootballtalk.com, have surmised that it surrounds the fourth-year training camp money he would make.

C’mon. Really? Quibbling over training camp money that won’t come to fruition for four years is a bit much. Just get off the damn pot and compromise guys. This isn’t brain surgery we’re trying to accomplish here.

But to be fair to Jones and the Packers – they aren’t alone. As of this morning, there were plenty of other first-rounders who haven’t been signed, including overall first pick Eric Fisher.

Here’s the complete list:

Eric Fisher – Chiefs

Jonathan Cooper – Cardinals

Dee Milliner – Jets

Chance Warmack – Titans

D.J. Hayden – Raiders

Sheldon Richardson – Jets

Justin Pugh – Giants

Desmond Trufant – Falcons

Sharrif FloydXavier Rhodes, and Cordarrelle Patterson – Vikings

Bjorn Werner – Colts

Datone Jones – Packers

Let’s hope the Packers do what they can and that the ice is broken over the next day or two. The franchise needs its first-rounder in camp from the get-go.
