Packers: Day 1 begins road to answers

You may be taking your first bite of that donut, digging into your Coco Puffs, or slurping down that first sip of coffee as you read this – and as you do, the Green Bay Packers may be hitting the field for their first on-field workouts this morning.

This morning at 8:20 a.m. the team will be practicing in shells to kick off the next 30-plus days of workouts, preseason games and suspense about who will fill key positions on the team.

Will Georgio Tevecchio put a legitimate challenge on incumbent kicker Mason Crosby? Will Marshall Newhouse make a legitimate run to win the right offensive tackle starting job – or might it be someone like Andrew Datko who comes out of nowhere to win that job? How will the running backs fare? Will rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin be the powerhouse backs that everyone is hoping? Will Alex Green hang on to his starting role in the backfield and will James Starks have the chance to even make the team? Who will be the backup quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers? Harrell or Coleman? And what about the wide receivers? Will the rookies make an impact? Who will make the team behind the three amigos – Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, and James Jones?

And I won’t even mention the defense – we all know there are going to be changes on that side of the ball.

So, as you enjoy your Coco Puffs, remember to make Lombardiave.com a daily stop on your Packers news search. While we won’t be at every practice or preseason game, we will be looking at players and issues and writing posts that you won’t find anywhere else on the interweb. It should be fun over the course of the next month or so as we move toward the start of the regular season.
