So, just what’s going on with Green Bay Packers rookie defensive end Datone Jones? We know he was injured during the first play of last Friday’s 17-0 embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field.
We know the injury has been described as a sprained ankle … and that’s it.
Silence. offline. Mouths zippered shut.
We’re hoping that changes today.
The Packers begin a transition from the morning practices they’ve been having the past two weeks by holding sessions that are to begin around the 11 a.m. hour as they work to prepare in a way that is more like those workouts they go through when the regular season gets under way.
With that said, today’s (Monday, Aug. 12) practice session will not be open to the public and will also be without pads.
However, our hope is that at some point today we are provided some news about Jones. How serious is this sprained ankle? We know that even a minor ankle injury can cause discomfort for weeks. We’ve all turned our ankles. We all know the feeling. Now add 285 pounds on top of that and you might get an idea of what Jones is feeling today.
As fans, we’re hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst possible news with Jones. A high ankle sprain could mean weeks on the shelf for the Packers’ first round draft pick. If so, his injury can be added to the more than one dozen who have been sidelined already because of injury.
Though the Packers have not announced any times for Mike McCarthy’s daily meeting with the press on their home website, but we’ll keep our ears pinned to the ground for any news about Jones and any other injury news of note.
Stay tuned …
