The Seattle Seahawks invaded Lambeau Field tonight in what has turned into a flagfest of penalties with enough laundry on the field one might think this one was being sponsored by Tide.
But seriously, after both teams mounted impressive opening drives by the first teams – with both Green Bay and Seattle kicking field goals – this game has turned into a defensive stand. Both teams have shut down the run; both teams have started beating on one another, with the referees taking over at the end with flag after flag.
It’s definitely preseason.
It appeared the Packers, led by Graham Harrell, had scored a touchdown with a catch by tight end Jermichael Finley at the goal line. However, upon review, the catch was overturned when it was clear that Finley had dropped and trapped the ball.
The Packers pass rush did come alive, especially in the first quarter, when Clay Matthews and Brad Jones each collected sacks. However, the Seahawks gashed the Packers with huge runs and passes as they moved down the middle of the field. The Packers also intercepted Russell Wilson twice.
Probably the most disconcerting aspect of the first half was again on the injury front. Morgan Burnett and DuJuan Harris among them.
It was an entertaining, low-scoring affair in the first half. Who wins this one?
Stay tuned … the second half of guys looking for jobs is coming up.
