Ted Thompson, the master of the understatement, shows his humanity

If getting sick is what it takes, then Ted Thompson is the master of this thing called managing a professional football team like the Green Bay Packers.

Today he told reporters that when he has to make the tough decisions about which players to keep and which to send home he gets physically ill. That says a lot about the guys he oversees. So many times all you hear is that the NFL is brutal, that it’s a business and it’s about the bottom line – winning. From winning comes profit – the real bottom line.

When Ted Thompson, the champion of the understatement, admits that the decisions needed to be made at this time of year are that difficult, it only shows that he, too, is human.

That’s a good thing.
