Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Live game thread

If you’re ready for the regular season of NFL football you’ve got to wait one more week, but in the meantime join us tonight for the final preseason game.

It should be a lot of fun tonight, folks and we’re hosting this thread to give  you an opportunity to tell us what you’re feeling, ask questions and just talk Packers football-live, during the game.

Join us as we discuss everything from the starters not playing to whether the Packers made the right move in keeping Mason Crosby.

Dan Turczynski came up with these five things to be watching for tonight. Take a look and then scroll down and leave your comments …

5.) Limited time for the starters

As to be expected in the last preseason game, most of the Packers’ stars will not be playing, that would include Aaron RodgersRandall CobbJordy NelsonClay Matthews (most likely) and a few others. It will be up to Vince Young and B.J. Coleman to battle it out for the backup quarterback position – a position in which Young has a significant lead. Look for Young and Coleman to each play a half as they try to show the coaching staff who should win the job.

4.) Last chance for D.J. Williams?

D.J. Williams has been fading at the wrong time in Packers’ camp. Williams was once considered to be the next Jermichael Finley for the Packers. However, that hasn’t quite panned out. Williams is a gym class hero – the type of player who only performs in practice. He gets people excited, then disappoints in the game. It has become very frustrating to watch Williams as of late. He’s dropped a handful of balls in the preseason, he’s missed blocking assignments and besides a few catches last week has been invisible.

3. Starks or Green?

Even with DuJuan Harris put on injured reserve this week, either Alex Green or James Starks will get cut this weekend. In my opinion, Green is miles ahead of Starks in the competition and the Packers have even cut Starks’ playing time in the preseason down to nothing the last two games. It is evident that Starks is on his way out. It’s just a matter of time before the Packers make it official. Watch for Green to get a lot of carries Thursday night along with Franklin and for Starks to continue to be phased out in Green Bay.

2.) Will Micah Hyde continue to impress?

Micah Hyde has arguably been the most impressive player in Packers’ training camp in 2013. Hyde has pushed Davon House and Jarrett Bush way down the depth chart and is sitting right up there with Sam ShieldsCasey Hayward and Tramon Williams. Hyde has by far played the most downs of any Packer in the preseason and that shouldn’t change Thursday night. Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy may have found another late round gem in Hyde.

1.) Franklin’s time to shine

As Hyde has been the most impressive Packer this offseason, rookie fourth round pick Johnathan Franklin has been the most disappointing. Franklin was suppose to be the starting running back in Green Bay, according to many scouts after the draft. However, that hasn’t come to fruition.

  • Dan

I think I’m caught up now. Just saw the fullstart on KC.

  • Chris Sergeant

    Just happened for me.

  • Dan

What do you think, Chris? Who are you watching tonight on defense?

  • RayRivard

How could Lattimore not catch that ball?

  • Dan

Gotta make those plays to earn playing time.

  • Chris Sergeant

I’m worried about our secondary… too many iinjuries.

  • RayRivard

Has Datone Jones played yet? or is he not going to?

  • Chris Sergeant

    Injuries *

  • Dan

Not sure if Hayward and Burnett will be ready to go for the season opener. Good thing we have Williams back.

  • RayRivard

Good to have Tramon back and they’ve got some depth this year with Hyde and Banjo … I just like saying his name

  • Chris Sergeant

Yeah, Hyde has been a stud.

  • RayRivard

I haven’t heard much about those guys. What’s the latest?

  • RayRivard

    Coleman in the game

  • Dan

They both have pulled hamstrings, and Hayward missed the first three weeks of camp with it. Who knows how long it will take?

  • Dan

    What Coleman already?

  • RayRivard

    they are going to alternate

  • Chris Sergeant

    I wanted Vince Young :/

  • RayRivard

    Zombo with the pick

  • Dan

Gotcha. Hope so. Why not let one play for a few series before switching? How are they going to get in a rhythm?

  • Dan

Oh boy. I don’t think Coleman is helping his cause for the roster.

  • RayRivard

Not sure why they are doing it that way. That’s why they get the big bucks

  • RayRivard

    Coleman could be gone.

  • Dan

So true, Ray. Don’t you love it how as fans sometimes we think we know better than the coaches. Sometimes I have to remind myself I’m just a fan. haha

  • RayRivard

Who was saying something about Johnny Jolly making the team? He is making a statement

  • Dan

    Great sack by Jolly

  • Dan

    What a great story

  • RayRivard

Hyde is the story of the preseason, though

  • Dan

Another sack. The Packers D has gotten good pressure this preseason. That’s encouraging.

  • Chris Sergeant

    Hyde looking so good.

  • Dan

The Packers may need him to play a lot against San Fran if Hayward misses the game.

  • RayRivard

Does Coleman get the call again?

  • Dan

Not sure. Selfishly, I’d like to see more of Young. I want to see him pass more.

  • RayRivard

agree, Dan. Wish they would just give him a whole half

  • Chris Sergeant

I’d say its time to bench b.j.

  • RayRivard

hough they don’t want Young to get hurt either

  • RayRivard

    Coleman playing

  • RayRivard

    Franklin with a nice burst
