By now, everybody is aware of the events that transpired for the Green Bay Packers yesterday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Whether you’re still trying to get over the result or just trying to rationalize it by the mistake the referees made, it’s time to look ahead to week number 2.
Sure, it was a tough loss but the Packers showed they could play with the best team in football. The Packers held the Forty-Niners to under a hundred yards of rushing and that is a victory in and of itself. They had some great defensive stands that gave the Packer offense and special teams a chance to respond but a few mental mistakes hurt them in the long run.
Tonight we got our first look at Robert Griffin III since he tore is ACL in the playoffs last season. RG3 is a mobile quarterback that presents another threat once he gets out of the pocket. Based off of yesterday’s game we know we can stop the run threat Alfred Morris will present. Matthews and the Green Bay defense also showed that they have a better grasp of defending the read-option.
Eddie Lacy also seemed to be more comfortable in the backfield as the game progressed. With Burnett hopefully coming back next week, the secondary should also be able to play at a higher level against guys like Moss and Garcon.
No need to panic, Packers fans. The way I see it is yesterday we learned that the Packers will run the NFC North once again; we have a defense we can rely on, and for the first time in a while I see a running game coming on.
Plus we can still go 15-1, ya know.
