I’m a really busy guy, just ask my wife … on second thought, don’t ask my wife.

But needless to say if I could write about the Green Bay Packers all day long and help to put a roof over my head and food on the table, I would be in Heaven.

But with everyone, we all have one foot in Hell – it’s called our day jobs.

No, I haven’t been able to quit it.

And because of that, I can’t be in two places at once.

When I’m busy editing reporters’ copy, formatting photos and getting pages ready for pagination at my day job as editor of The Lakeland Times, there is important Packers news happening.

And because of those “day job,” duties interfering with my dream job, I’ve decided to look for help from Packers fans out there – fans who are interested in joining our staff as News Desk contributors.

What I’m looking for are folks to take a shift on the desk to monitor Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites, as well as all sites that cover the Packers to find topics to write about.

The job would entail covering the desk over a period of 3-4 hours and posting at least one post per hour on topics about the Packers and/or related closely to the Packers (in other words, NFL or even NFC North news that would impact Green Bay).

These posts need to be at least 200 words in length (so they get picked up by Google News). And that’s basically it. This is a great opening to get your foot in the door in online sports media writing. It’s an entry level position and though there is no pay, candidates who perform well will always be considered for paying gigs within the FanSided Network.

Applicants should have a solid command of the English language.

Other skills that would be required:

• Self-starter;
• Strong use of grammar, punctuation and sentence structure;
• Basic understanding of SEO (search engine optimization) but we can help with this; and
• Reliable

  • Monitor relevant team news outlets during your shift, including Twitter and Facebook;
  • Recognize newsworthy information and provide a short, informative news post to the site (200-300 words, with at least one photograph); and
  • Provide at least one post per hour during the shift. has become one of the more popular fan sites on the Internet and we are consistently within the top five of all NFL team blogs in page views and visits among all sites.

With the regular season under way, we’re always looking for ways to amp up our daily and game coverages. The news desk is part of that effort.

So, we are looking for opinionated and well-informed Packers fans to join our team on our news desk.

If interested in this position and the possibility of joining the team here at, email me at [email protected].

We’re looking forward to hearing from you … and …
