After suffering a viscous hit to the head against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers‘ tight end Jermichael Finley was carted off the field in front of a silent crowd at Lambeau Field.

Given his concussion history, many feared Finley suffered another debilitating head injury; however, it was reported after he was taken off the field that the Packers tight end suffered a neck injury. The extent of Finley’s injury at this point has been a bit of a mystery. From home, it didn’t look good, and according to his teammates, it didn’t look good in person either.

Many thoughts and prayers have been with Finley since he was taken from Lambeau Field to intensive care last night. Early reports from NFL.com’s Ian Rapport have said sources close to the Packers tight end told him that Finley was able to move his extremities and could walk around after leaving the game.

A good sign any time the neck and head are involved in a violent collision.

Not much else is known about Finley’s injury. All we can do is wait and see if a report comes out later in the week about the severity of the injury. The good news is that on Monday evening Finley took to Twitter and let fans and friends know that he is doing fine.

It’s great to hear from the tight end himself. As serious as the injury could have been, I’m glad to see Finley is doing all right and is able to get up and walk around. When Finley went down in the game and lay limp on the field, I thought about how hard it must be for his family, friends, and teammates to see the amiable tight end go down like that.

We all hope Finley can return to the field soon, but more importantly, I’m glad Finley hasn’t suffered any terminal damage that could hinder him for the rest of his life.

It appears Finley will be okay. It’s too soon to say when he’ll be ready to play again. It may not even be this season.

He will miss at least this Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. A big loss for the Packers. Let’s hope we’ll see him catching passes again this year from No. 12.
