Note to Aaron Rodgers: 'SLIDE!'

On behalf of the entire Packers Nation and stockholders, we have just one word to say to Aaron Rodgers this morning:  “SLIDE!

As he sits  healing his fractured collarbone, I believe he should have to watch that disaster from Monday Night Football, while we bring in a group of fans to scream “slide” to him every so often, so he is clear what is expected of him.  We just went from running away with the division to all of a sudden being lucky enough to make the playoffs – all because you were trying to get an extra three yards.

Now I don’t want AR to stop scrambling and running, but he has to understand he cannot take unnecessary hits. You go down and you see what happens. I am sure Seneca Wallace is a nice person, but we just went from having a high performance sports car at quarterback to 1975 Chevy Vega. You were just compensated to be the franchise and you just irresponsibly put the franchise at risk. Again, all because of three extra yards in the first quarter of a game during the regular season.

Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson have made a huge mistake in not providing this organization with a capable backup.  We need to hold them accountable for not providing a qualified backup this past off-season and having time to be prepared. MM further compounded this by not getting Seneca Wallace any playing time in blowout wins earlier this year.

I am not saying either should be fired, but they need to be clear they both made grave mistakes that are going to have major consequences for the team this year. The complete and utter failure last night is not on Seneca, but Mike and Ted. They failed the team and fans for not being prepared. Everyone saw this coming and they are paid rather well to make sure we, as fans and stockholders, are not put in this situation.

Obviously we all know by now that Matt Flynn is on waivers. I am not saying that Matt is a quality starting quarterback in the NFL. Obviously he has issues after being discarded by the Bills and Raiders this year already. But he knows the Packers’ offense and maybe the system just fits him better.

One thing is for sure – Seneca Wallace is not the answer. There is no other quarterback available that could come in and pick up the system and have a positive impact over the next three weeks.

We all know the Packers are going to promote Scott Tolzien from the practice squad. This is what they do. Unfortunately we now have to rest our hopes for the season on the shoulders of Wallace and an undrafted quarterback from three years ago who has yet to take one snap in an NFL regular season game.

If AR does miss the next three games, there is little hope they can win any of the games while facing eight men fronts to stop the run game. So the Packers are looking at being 5-6 or at best 6-5 when he returns. It is going to be difficult to make the playoffs at 10-6 or 9-7.

Aaron, this is what you caused by in your decision not to slide. Three yards is not worth three games.
