‘Twas the Night Before Sunday’ … Green Bay Packers version

Twas the night before Sunday and all through Green Bay,
Not a fan was yet sleeping, it felt like midday.
The jerseys were hung on their hangers with care,
Each with a hope and a tradition to bear.

The players, watching film, avoiding their beds,
Had visions of touchdowns dance through their heads.
And Mike and Mark and Ted Thompson, too,
Were all making sure the Pack knew what to do.

It was then from downtown there arose such a clatter,
None need spring to the window to see what was the matter.
Everyone knew what was meant by the flash,
Lambeau field, being prepped for a heavyweight clash.

The moon danced above the historic site,
And gave life to an otherwise motionless night.
When what should my wandering eyes lay upon?
A larger than life PACKERS sign on a lawn.

Yes, the night before Sunday is always so calm,
Without a care in the world, without a gripe or a qualm.
It is then that the fans get down on their knees
And ask God to protect Packers’ heads and their knees.

We pray for James Jones and Jordy, for Aaron and Clay,
For B.J, Nick Perry and the cornerback play.
We need you all healthy, we need you all on your game,
If you’re out of the lineup, who can we blame?

The diets, the hamstring? The offseason camps?
Is there any possibility it’s a bad case of the cramps?
The night before Sunday, we wait anxious to hear,
Whose name on the injury report will make our eyes tear.

This night before Sunday, the prayers will be loud,

Week 12 brings great number of Vikes to the crowd.
It’s always a dogfight, a guaranteed brawl,
But this time, our best horse isn’t leaving the stall.

Aaron Rodgers in civies is not a good look,
So I looked up the collarbone in an anatomy book.
Did you know such a weird bone takes eight weeks to heal?
Just enough time for a great season to reel.

The Bears and the Eagles and the Giants came through,
And all left with W’s … what’s a Packer to do?
This night before Sunday, the fans all bite their nails,
They know it’s a must-win, hope nothing else fails.

Scott Tolzien’s at the helm, he’s steering the ship,
With hopes of a possible Super Bowl trip.
Injuries are mounting, it seems like despair,
But remember the jerseys all hung with care?

The Packers, they need us! To wear green and gold,
It’s a longstanding tradition between young and old.
We will rep at the gym, at work, at the store …
No matter the outcome, no matter the score.

So bring on Greg Jennings, come Christian Ponder,
Jared Allen and the boys, from just over yonder.
Has the sun risen yet, on this crisp Sunday morning?
It’s time to let out a great big Lambeau warning!

The Pack is resilient and we aren’t backing down,
Especially when a division rival comes to town!
So Vikings, prepare to bring your game graded A …
And goodnight from the Packers, see you Sunday.
