Round 3: DaQuan Jones, Defensive Lineman, Penn State

Jones has the perfect size and length for a 3-4 defensive end (6-3, 318). He’s excellent against the run and has the strength and broad base to hold at the point of attack and occupy blockers.

As a senior, Jones led Penn State in tackles for a loss with 11.5. He also showed some quickness and finished the year with 56 tackles and three sacks.

The Packers have several defensive linemen set to be free agents in the offseason (B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly, etc.). The defensive line has also worn down as the season has progressed and could use some young talent at the position.

Mike Daniels, Datone Jones, and Jerel Worthy are all recent DL draft picks by the Packers, but all three are better suited for Green Bay’s subpackages and struggle holding their own in the Packers base defense.

The Packers desperately need bigger bodies that can win at the line of scrimmage on their defensive line. Jones fits this mold and would be a great pick in the third round.
