Sunday will mark the most anticipated Wildcard Weekend match-up of the first round featuring the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers. With the two teams having met previously three times in the last two seasons, it’s safe to say a rivalry is budding between the two ball clubs. The Packers have whiffed in the win column in all three.
Their last clash at Candlestick Park in Week 1 produced a thrilling game in which the 49ers prevailed 34-28. The Packers had a 28-24 lead in the fourth quarter, but failed to stop the 49ers on their final possessions allowing a 5-play, 80-yard touchdown drive after taking the lead, and after a quick three-and-out, an 11-play, 50-yard field goal drive that ate up the clock and sealed the Packers’ fate.
Fast forward four months later and someone’s season will come to an end in the forecasted bitter cold of Green Bay.
The Packers have the pieces to upset the hottest team in the NFC. But to do so they will need to play better than in previous encounters. I took a look at three players who will need to have redemption games on Wildcard Sunday.
