(Note: All of these articles are simply speculation as we consider the players on this list and what might be the case if they became Packers; we’re not convinced that Ted Thompson would sign any of them – but it’s fun to think that way anyway)
It got me to thinking, “Who on this list would fit in with the Green Bay Packers and what would it look like?”
Number nine is intriguing and one I would like to see in a Packers uniform - Lamarr Houston.
Houston is a player who most likely will not get away from the Oakland Raiders. They have plenty of cap room and not enough good players. They would be stupid to let a player of Houston’s talents get away. However, crazier things have happened.
Houston has had a good career in Oakland with 16.5 sacks and 171 tackles, all good for a defensive tackle. He had his strongest season yet with 6 sacks and 56 tackles, even on a team devoid of much talent. He is a huge body at 6′ 3″ and 300 pounds.
In Green Bay this man could be an anchor for the defensive front. The defensive line has been missing a punch as of late, and B.J. Raji and most of the line are free agents. Houston could provide a big, physical presence that has been lacking since Raji’s 2010 season. He also has proved he can provide a pass rush up the middle which the Packers desperately need.
As far as scheme, it would be an adjustment given he has played in a 4-3. But I think he could make the switch and do well. The only question would be whether he would play end or tackle and if he would have the same impact at defensive end. I want to envision a second coming of Cullen Jenkins here.
