(Note: All of these articles are simply speculation as we consider the players on this list and what might be the case if they became Packers; we’re not convinced that Ted Thompson would sign any of them – but it’s fun to think that way anyway)
It got me to thinking, “Who on this list would fit in with the Green Bay Packers and what would it look like?”
Number 10, and a talented player for number 10, is Brent Grimes.
Grimes is the first player on this list who has played for two different teams. He was on the Atlanta Falcons, got franchised tagged when it was his time for free agency, and then proceeded to injury his Achilles after just one game in 2012. Because of this, he was not re-signed and went to the Miami Dolphins on a single year contract.
Grimes was a steal and had a great season. For his career he has 17 interceptions, 72 passes defensed, and 247 tackles. Last season with Miami, Grimes had 4 picks, 16 passes defensed, and 52 tackles.
So Grimes in Green Bay, eh? Well for one, the Dolphins would have to be silly enough to let him get away. He proved in a big way he could come back from a rough injury and make a big impact. Grimes could instantly play well for the Packers and be a solid replacement for Sam Shields were he to get away. This team could use some solid veteran leadership and Grimes would bring that.
Grimes may take some time to adjust, but I believe he would fit the scheme well and play even better. While Shields is a rising player, he has been inconsistent still so far in his career. Grimes is a proven commodity and could end up a better replacement.
What do you think in all of this craziness? Should Teddy take a chance on Grimes instead of Shields? Tell us in the comments.
