Today Lombardiave.com staff writer Patrick Hughes has launched a Kickstarter campaign entitled “On the Road with the Green & Gold – A Journey Into Packer Nation.”
This project put forward by Hughes aims to celebrate and illuminate the devotion, rituals and pride of arguably the most fervent fan base in the NFL during a time of unmatched connectivity. Hughes, who is originally from Plymouth, Wisconsin, and currently resides in Portland, Oregon, will immerse himself into Packers Nation.
During the course of the 2014 NFL season he will travel to 10 games at Lambeau Field and away venues across the NFL landscape. Additionally Hughes will travel to and watch six games at different “Packers Bars” across the country.
The culmination of this epic journey will be a book, “On the Road with the Green & Gold – A Journey Into Packer Nation.” Hughes is passionately curious about the people that make up Packers Nation and this project is not only about the fan base, but for the fan base.
Because of this, Hughes will share some of his discoveries in real time through a blog and social media sites Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Hughes is fascinated by the tight knit culture and far reach of Packers Nation. As he says, “Living outside of Wisconsin has enriched my appreciation for the people and the culture that surrounds the Green Bay Packers. Everyone has a story or stories that connect them to the team and ultimately one another. I want to collect those stories and make new ones and share them.”
Kickstarter is a crowd funding site based out of Brooklyn, N.Y., and is a funding platform for creative projects. Since Kickstarter’s inception in April 2009, more than 50,000 creative projects have been funded and $1 billion has been pledged by more than one million people. Project creators, like Hughes, determine their project’s funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to see the project realized and receive a reward for their contribution. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when the campaign’s time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
If you want to get on board and assist Hughes in this journey into Packers Nation you can do so by visiting his Kickstarter project page. Also, help guide him by relaying to him your favorite Packers bar. Patrick is encouraging you to tweet to him, @phughespdx, or send him an email detailing your favorite Packers Bar. Tell your friends to do this, too, and enough response may have him taking in a Packers game on a bar stool next to you.
The On the Road with the Green & Gold Kickstarter campaign is 30 days in length and runs from May 21 to June 19.
Hughes has calculated that he will need to raise $40,000 to see this project realized. Those who assist him will be given rewards that include exclusive access to the blog, and a copy of the book.
Let’s rally Packers Nation! Allow Patrick Hughes to document and share the stories that bring this social network to life and solidify that Packers Nation as the best fan base in the NFL!
