UPDATE: According to a tweet this morning by Rob Demovsky, sources told him that his visit to Green Bay was simply a “formality” and that no testing is scheduled.
Recent reports have indicated that maybe Green Bay Packers free agent tight end Jermichael Finley’s cryptic tweets of this past week may have some substance. According to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Finley is ready to undergo testing with the Packers this week and could be getting very close to being cleared to play football once again. Here’s what Finley reported via Twitter this past week:
“@CourtFinley88: 24 hour road trip to Green Bay in less than 24hrs w nothing packed!” Oh Really!?!? Lol
— Jermichael Finley (@JermichaelF88) May 23, 2014
In light of Dunne’s report, these tweets may make a bit more at this point in time, though we still don’t know for sure.
What we do know is that Finley went down with a neck injury last October that required surgery and that he’s had a slow comeback, despite his being on the free agency market. The Packers have expressed interest in Finley all along, though he did pay a visit to the Seattle Seahawks a couple of months ago and reportedly came home with a handshake agreement that if he was cleared by doctors to play, the Seahawks may have an interest.
With the Packers’ history with injuries, it’s unclear whether the team doctor will ever clear him. But if he does, expect the Packers to make a run at re-signing him.
Stay tuned on this one …
