Isn’t it grand that the start of NFL training camps have given us a great release and feelings of grand expectations?
You gotta love this time of year – baseball has hit its stride and heads into August with so many great races going on; football is in this season’s infancy … a time when everyone is even and the Super Bowl is the ultimate goal.
Now comes along Trey Wingo’s tweet today:
BREAKING NEWS: Starting Sunday;. there will be some sort of NFL game played every weekend until early February #YourewelcomeAmerica
— trey wingo (@wingoz) July 31, 2014
How can this not be the ultimate in a statement about this time of year. It’s vacation month; it’s swimming and boating month; it’s time to get excited about the NFL.
Any way you slice it, this is the time of year when the free agent buried deep on the depth charts makes a statement or two in training camp practice, turning a couple of coaches’ heads as well as being noticed by the media. We’ve seen it so many times in Green Bay and expect that there will be players this early season who do the same things.
Could Raijon Neal be that type of player? Could Colt Lyerla break his demons and earn a spot on the roster?
We won’t know until live game action starts up next week.
However, with Saturday’s Family Night we might catch a glimpse of one of these types off players breaking out.
When you’ve got 90 guys on the training camp roster, with the cutdown to 75 and 53 around the corner, it doesn’t leave coaching staffs a lot of room for error. Recognizing these diamonds in the rough may be a bit more difficult for coaches because of the reduction in the number of practices over the course of training camp.
So, like Wingo says in his tweet. it’s time for us to renew our love of football, to head to the stadiums and to watch with friends and family on TV. The fun is about to begin. Let’s get ready for more surprises and success stories with the new NFL season.
