The Green Bay Packers and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame have scheduled a joint press conference regarding Brett Favre for Monday afternoon, Aug. 4, 1:30 p.m.

In a press release (see below) issued within the hour, the announcement will be made in the new Hall of Fame under construction in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Packers Hall of Fame Inc. President Perry Kidder will be joined by Packers President Mark Murphy and Bob Harlan, the team’s former president and a member of the Packers Hall of Fame executive  committee, and chairman emeritus of the franchise.

All are expected to address those gathered at the event.

Favre is also expected to be available for comments via telephone.

No other information was included in the press release, but speculation across the Internet tonight is that the announcement is that Favre will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and will have his number retired. However, the number retirement won’t occur until the 2015 Packers season. He will be inducted into the HOF next summer.

There has been plenty of speculation over the course of the past year or two about when Favre would be honored by the Packers and just a couple of weeks ago it was Murphy who intimated the Packers and Favre didn’t want to bring Favre to Green Bay in 2014 because both sides were afraid there would be too many fans who would boo.

Favre rejected that notion last week and it appears that both sides have put together plans to bring Favre back to Green Bay next year.
