With 23 days left until the start of the NFL season, our countdown to the big day continues.

Thursday, Sept. 4, is the day when the Green Bay Packers travel to Seattle to take on the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks.

Over the  course of the next 23 days we focus on the number that represents the days remaining … and for today we take a look numbers 24 and 23.

Most recently, we took a look at numbers 26 and 25 – Herb Adderley and Dorsey Levens

Let’s take a look at number 24 and consider the likes of Tim Hauck and Johnnie Gray. Many of you may still remember Mossy Cade - and not in a good light. And considering the way that Jarrett Bush played in Tennessee this past weekend, he is one player who seems to be aging like a fine wine.

But there was one player who wore the number for those Vince Lombardi-coached teams - Willie Wood  the model for all undrafted players.

Today we also consider #23. In all, there have been 26 Packers players to have worn the number.

We consider the likes of Tiger GreeneNoah HerronMark Roman, and Sammy Walker.

But there was one #23 who was something different for the Packers: Travis Williams.

Once again we turn to John Maxymuk, the author of “Packers by the Numbers: Jersey Numbers and the Players Who Wore them,” to provide insight and background and take us back to the years when Wood and Williams played …
